CELINA
BUCKLEY
CELINA BUCKLEY is an author, illustrator, and arts educator based in Co. Cork. Her practice is fundamentally rooted in visual storytelling, book-making, and fostering creative agency in young people. She holds an MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art and a B.Ed from Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
Celina’s work focuses on high-quality, child-centred narrative experiences. She has published picture books both nationally and internationally—including The Salmon of Knowledge, which featured on RTÉ’s Home School Hub—and recently completed a major series of eight children’s art activity books for the Ballinglen Arts Foundation. Central to her practice is her collaborative work with Creative Ireland, libraries, and schools, leading concept development and production for community-authored titles like Rocky’s Adventure and Mouse House.
Alongside her publishing and residency work, Celina designs and facilitates large-scale participatory illustration workshops. She has partnered with prominent cultural institutions and festivals across Ireland and Europe, including the International Literature Festival Dublin (ILFD), the Red Line Book Festival (where she was Illustrator in Residence), Electric Picnic, and European schools in Belgium and Germany.
As a byproduct of her deep immersion in visual narrative and direct observation, Celina maintains an active and recognised visual arts practice. Supported by the Arts Council, her landscape and public art projects explore the relationship between human and natural environments, leading to solo exhibitions across Ireland and a selection as a finalist on Sky Landscape Artist of the Year.
